Excursions

At the intersection of important traffic routes between the East and the West, shore and sea, a good infrastructure was created with numerous excursions, available in just one day. In the vicinity of Trieste you can find:

• Venezia, unique world jewel, the centre of what it used to be Venetian Republic with many sights, shops, squares, bridges and inevitable gondolas,

• Aquileia, the ancient centre of Patriarchate, rich excavations and archaeological findings of world importance,

• Grado, the fisherman small city and important swimming and tourist destination,

• Udine, wonderful city which surroundings are famous for its ethnographic specialities,

• Pordenone, industrial city and centre of many trade fairs and economical events,

• Gorizia with its ancient castle,

• San Daniele del Friuli, small city famous for prosciutto and aromatic grape wine,

• Cividale del Friuli, first center of Lombardy Duchy (lat. Langobardi) situated at the shores of the river Natisone,

• Palmanova,

• Redipuglia, sacral monument for thousands of casualties in World War I,

• Tarvisio, skiing destination Carnia and surrounding romantic Austrian place Villach,

• Postojna Caves - 20.570 m long limestone cave system formed by plunge of river Pivke, which first visitors, in accordance to the writings on the rocks, have been registered in 13th Century,

• Škocjan Caves, the system of water caves in which flows river Reka, which underground cannon is 2600 m long. Also worth seeing: Martel Cave, nature bridges in Large and Small Valley, natural windows in Mahorčič Cave and many waterfalls and rapids,

• Ljubljana, cultural and architecturally very interesting center of Slovenia very near to the Bled and Bohinj Lakes,

• Stud farm Lipice situated at the very centre of old oak and linden forests for over 400 years dealing with the breeding and training of Lipicaner horses,

• Scenic coastal Slovenian small cities Piran, Izola and Koper,

• Coastal Istria destinations: National Park Brijuni (through the entire summer available direct ship line for Park Brijuni), Pula, Rovinj, Opatija (famous tourist, climate, swimming and port destination in Rijeka Bay underneath the Učka),
• Istria inland - Motovun (small Middle-ages city, today famous for film festival), Grožnjan (artistic centre, place of many workshops and colonies), Dvigrad (ruins of the Medieval city), Hum (the smallest city in the World), Momjan (old Istrian small city surrounded by vineyards and olive groves) and Kotli.
